Hey there, Plumbbobbers!
The Plumb Bobs love regular rehearsal time. A chance for us to get together as a band without the attention of performing. We play music, tell stories, and just enjoy each other. It is in the rehearsal studio that we first heard the beginnings of our first band original, “Spider in the Shower”. We call it a band original because it was truly a collaborative effort.
One night last year, Jonathan came in with a guitar riff he was visibly excited about. “It’s called Spider in the Shower,” he said. He went on to tell us about the real spider he saw in the shower that day. We loved the riff. Marcos said, “It’s great, but the lyric should be Spider in your shower, like ‘I’m the spider in your shower’ — and it is a love song of sorts. You like this girl but she thinks you are repulsive.”
“Yes”, says Aaron, “like, I’m an irritant to you, like I’m the fly in your ointment.” And the conversation went on. Jonathan worked some verses and we all chimed in. Marcos helped with arrangement and form, leading to one of his favorite parts to play: a single note harmony over Jonathan’s rhythms. “It’s so simple, yet so effective!”
Enter Mary, who added drums to the mix as well as high harmonies, launching the song to take it’s full shape. “Spider In The Shower” pops with cat calls, choice frivolity, dynamic changes, and harmonies; and it rolls on to a satisfying declaration of unrequited love followed by a banging last chord and cymbal hit.
The Plumb Bobs have worked the song into their regular repertoire. You are sure to hear it when you see them. Or just ask for the song by name!
Enjoy yourselves out there!
